Never Get a Real Job Book Review

Disclaimer: I received a copy of Never Get a Real Job from the author to review on this blog. However, I am under no obligation to provide a positive review. The following is my personal opinion.

When I was contacted by the author of Never Get a Real Job, I thought, "cool, another business book I get to read." I figured it would be just another fluff-filled, non-practical book about entrepreneurship. However, I finished the book wishing it had been written back when I resigned from my previous job and started my own business.

About the Author

Scott Gerber is the author of Never Get a Real Job. He is a self-taught serial entrepreneur who built successful businesses without the advantages of business connections, business school, or executive training. He is also the founder and CEO of Gerber Enterprises, an entrepreneurial incubator and venture management company that invests capital, management expertise, and marketing services into innovative early and mid-stage companies.

What Makes this Book Different?

The author has written this book in a very down-to-earth tone. You won't find any fluff here. Scott Gerber tells it like it is. Best of all, he tells it from his own experience of having a failed start-up. You won't be reading all about how great it is to run a business, you'll be reading about how to start a business from nothing.

Think you need to write a business plan and do all of the typical things to get started? Forget about it. Scott streamlines the process. The entire book is about taking action with your start-up but from a total beginner's point of view. You will learn how to make those important business connections, how to value your customers, market your business, and so much more.

Packed with Resources

Scott provides tons of resources. He provides a list of mentors to follow on Twitter to various services to help with running your business on a budget. Many of these resources are either low-cost or free.

I recommend this book for anyone looking to get started with their own business. It provides the essential guidance necessary to help prevent costly mistakes when getting started. Don't pass this by!
